Tonight I am sitting in my loft watching television and trying to figure out what I want to write about. I haven’t written in about a week as I gave myself time off to get myself in order. The doctor has put me on insulin and my other doctor has changed some of my medications and my body is having a hard time adjusting. The only thing I want to do is sleep. I could sleep for weeks.
Leading up to Valentine’s Day, my husband bought me nine stuffed giraffes. I was so happy that Walmart had gotten in giraffes for Valentine’s Day. My hubby got me the sweetest card and he sent me off to Port Arthur’s Mardi Gras with my friend Emily.
Emily and I had a fantastic time, except at moments it was like beads flying at you like shrapnel and Emily was a bit gun shy of getting hit. I told her the fear would fade by next Mardi Gras and we would be out there again.
Emily and I are very much alike. We got lost on the way to Port Arthur and had no idea how to get to Mardi Gras but technology came through in the end. I went on Facebook and was able to get my phone to direct us. We also were able to get a parking space that was fairly close to where we needed to be.
We walked around a bit, got food and found a place to stand to watch the parade. The place was packed. While we were waiting for the parade to start, the lady standing next to me stopped a guy trying to open my backpack. I guess he was trying to go for my wallet but the lady said something and I moved my backpack so no one would get in it.
After what seemed like forever, the parade reached us and it was so much fun. Like I said earlier, some of the beads that came flying at us were like shrapnel and we had to duck out of the way. In the end, we both ended up with a ton of beads.
I wore the hat that I got a Mardi Gras last year in Louisiana and so many people asked me where I got it. Emily and I got a chuckle out of the disappointed faces when they realized they couldn’t buy a hat like mine. I also was asked if would be okay to take my picture. The guy said he liked how I looked in my hat and asked me to take my picture. It made us laugh but I said yes, so there is a picture of me floating around out there.
I was pleasantly surprised at how fun Mardi Gras in Port Arthur turned out to be. We will definitely go again next year. I was so nervous about moving here but Beaumont/Port Arthur/Orange have so many fun things to do.
If you are from this area and know of other fun things to do, would you please drop me a note?
I would like to ask you to keep praying for my family. My brother in law is home from NC, but he needs to go back next month, so please keep him, my sister and their son in your prayers.
