Today while I was on the treadmill at the gym, one of the televisions was tuned to Jerry Springer. I haven’t watched much of Jerry Springer’s show, but whenever I have seen it, it is mostly women trying to beat the crap out of each other over a man who has cheated on them and it started me thinking about women on social media.
I am not sure if you have encountered someone who seems to hate you because of your beliefs, but I have. It happens more and more as I write this blog and as I get more followers on Twitter. I am not sure what is happening to the world since the invention of social media, but politeness seems to have gone out the window. I try my hardest to not take what people post personally, but sometimes that can be hard. I also try not to return their hatred. If that means getting off Twitter/Facebook/Instagram I log off.
The women in my life are amazing and I would bend over backward for them. I want to extend that to every woman in the world. I want to lift them up and show them that there are people who want what is best for them. Instead of attacking each other from behind the keyboard, we should be lifting each other up. It is time for women to empower one another.
When the #MeToo started, we saw the beginning of women standing up and protecting each other. We saw the start of something beautiful. It is too bad that it took women being sexually abused to start a movement for women to empower each other.
This year is my year of giving back and along with me, I am going to give you a challenge for this weekend. Over the weekend, take a moment to lift up the women in your life. With this weekend being Easter, some of us will be spending it with friends and family so, take the time to let them know how much you love and appreciate them.
I won’t be with my family this weekend as we all live far apart, so I will be have to lift up my sisters and mom via the phone.
